 EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Education programs at the ESFA focus on arts, culture and heritage education. They serve the needs and interests of students, educators, artists, historians, scholars, community organizations and the general public.

To engage and retain diverse audiences, the education department offers a diverse schedule of multidisciplinary public and educational programs that explore African forms of cultural expression and links to African Americans within the Orlando region and throughout the African Diaspora. Our lecture, music, dance and literary series and programs, annual Art and Jazz festivals, theatrical and literary performances, hands-on demonstrations and workshops, living history performances and other programs are designed to foster an appreciation for the variety of ways that thematic materials can be presented in order to support individual learning and participation.

In addition, programs are designed through the arts that are of social relevance to local communities. For example, our annual jazz festival offers workshops that are designed to foster competence and appreciation for this  importany American art form. Seminars focus on studying cultural artifacts and cultural performances in African tradition. They reflect and perpetuate values, ideals and cultural identities of the communities that created them.

Our education programs are a vital link between the permanent and traveling collections and the many communities that we serve. On-going partnerships with schools and community organizations help to form the creation of interactive experiences. Browse through the list of programs that we offer above and be sure to check out our upcoming workshops, lectures, family events and other special programming on our calendar of events.
